Part 1

School had just ended, and Eddward, or Double Dee as he was called by the kids in his neighborhood, stood under a tree, nervously awaiting the one he came here to meet. Since the end of summer, he has been wanting to tell a certain girl about his feelings for her. Now it is nearing the end of the first quarter of his junior year of high school, and he had just told his friends. It was then that Eddy, the schemer of their little group, came up with a plan. He told Double Dee to wait under the tree, as he and Ed, the muscles of the group, went off to get her. ‘That was an hour ago,’ he said to himself, ‘I wonder what’s taking so long?’ It was then that he heard her voice. “Hey Cutie!” Double Dee turned around just to get wrapped up in a hug and got a face full of the blue hair that of the girl he was meeting. Marie Kanker. When she let go of him, his face turned a bright red. “So,” Marie continued, “Ed and Eddy said you wanted to tell me something. What’s up?”

Before he could say anything, a green balloon came falling out of the tree, bursting a pale yellow goo all over her, which smelled a little like the lunch lady’s infamous custard. Double Dee stood there with a shocked look on his face as Marie began to tear up. The only noise that could be heard was Ed and Eddy’s laughter. Marie turned around and began running off. “Oh my god,” Eddy said over his laughs, “I can’t believe she fell for it. Good job Double Dee.”

Edd could understand why Eddy thought this was the best idea. All three of them had problems with the Kanker Sisters in the past. But this wasn’t what he wanted. As soon as Eddy was standing right beside him, he glared at him and ran off yelling, “You idiot!” This was not how he planned to tell her. Seeing her in tears, he didn’t want that. He ran as fast as he could, possibly faster than he ever had before, towards the trailer park. Soon, he found himself standing in front of her trailer only to see the door blocked by her cousin, Derek. Derek sat on the steps to the door, chewing on some type of pink stick with a bottle of Dr. Pepper next to him.

Derek holds out a little, pink box with more of the sticks and said as he offered them to him, “Pocky?”

“Ah,” Edd said a little hesitant, “no thank you. I’m actually here to see Marie.”

Derek set down the Pocky box, took the stick out of his mouth, and took a drink of his soda. When he was done, he glared at Double Dee and said, “Yes, let’s talk about Marie.” Edd knew he was in trouble. Derek rarely gave anyone that look, which was a look solely reserved for people that hurt his family. “What the hell were you thinking?”

“You saw.” Edd said ashamed of what happened.

“It’s kinda hard not to when she’s covered in custard and crying her eyes out.”

“But I didn’t mean for this to happen.”

“Well it did happen.” Derek was about ready to punch him, Edd could see that. But what Edd saw was something completely different. Derek’s hands began to droop. “Just tell me,” he said, “tell me why you decided to humiliate her like that?”

Edd sighed. Sitting next to Derek, he began to tell him what happened. “I told Eddy that I couldn’t get Marie out of my head. So he came up with an idea. Told me to wait under that tree as he and Ed went and got her.” His head began to sink. “I was just trying to tell her how I felt, then Eddy dropped that balloon on her.” Edd felt a tear rolling down his cheek. Wiping it away, he continued. “I’ve never seen her cry like that.”

Just then, he heard the trailer door open and close. Turning around, Edd saw Marie, freshly showered standing before him. She was wearing her usual black tank-top as well as an army green pair of pajama bottoms. Her eyes still red from what had happened. “Did you really mean that?” She asked, she had a pleading expression across her face. All Edd did was nod. “How long have you felt like this?”

“Since the end of summer.” Edd didn’t look her in the face. He just stared at his feet.

“About time,” she began to smile, making Double Dee look up at her. It was an awkward moment for the both of them. He wasn’t running from her, and she wasn’t chasing him. They both didn’t know what to do next. It was only when Derek spoke up that things were clear.

“Oh, go on and kiss her already,” a smile creeping across his face, “while we’re still young.” Not needing another urge, Edd walked up to Marie, gently grabbed her shoulders, and kissed her lightly on the lips. It was one of the most surprising things he had ever done, and that’s not saying much. It felt like an eternity before he released her, and her eyes fluttered like the wings of butterflies.

“Wow,” they both said in unison. Suddenly there were the sounds of clapping and whooping. Turning to the trailer, they saw Marie’s sisters, Lee and May, just standing there.

“Way to go, Marie,” May said.

“’Atta girl,” Lee said.

Double Dee began to smile nervously. “Well,” he said after a while, “I guess I should get going. I have homework to finish up.”

“Sure thing, Double Dee.” She smiled. “See you tomorrow, okay?” Edd gave a more enthusiastic nod. After which, he went straight home. He had never felt so alive before, not even after cataloging all of his new books. He had been so preoccupied by what happened, that he had found himself in front of his house with Ed and Eddy sitting in front of the door. Edd didn’t look at them first, but he wanted to know why they were here.

“What do you guys want?” He asked.

“We wanted to apologize for what happened,” Eddy said. “We,” he stopped himself, “I didn’t know that you were gonna take it that way. I just thought that if we pulled that prank on her, it might get her off of your mind.” Eddy looked down. For him to say this, he must have realized that he had really screwed up.

“It’s okay,” Edd replied, “you were just trying to help. But not in the way that I had hoped.”

“I know,” Eddy said as Double Dee walked right by them, “and if there is anything I can do to make up for it, I will gladly do it.” Just before his hand touched the door knob, an idea sprung into his head. Smiling he turned to his two friends. The look on their faces showed that they were afraid of what he was gonna ask them to do.

“Well,” he began, relishing the moment, “I went to the Kanker’s trailer to apologize for your actions. After a discussion with her cousin Derek, Marie and I can now be considered a couple.” It was then that both Ed and Eddy gasped.

“You have to be joking!!!” Eddy exclaimed.

“No, I am serious,” Edd’s smile not fading, “and I was going to have her and her sisters join us for lunch.”

“Seriously!?!” Eddy almost looked as if he could blow at any moment.

“KANKER’S BAD FOR ED!!!” Ed shouted.

“You did say you would do anything to make up for what you have done.” Edd knew this was a long shot, but it was about time he pulled the guilt trip on Eddy. After a while, Eddy finally caved.

“Fine,” Eddy said, “just don’t expect me to be friendly with Lee.”

“Oh, Eddy,” Edd said, “I would never dream of doing something like that. Of course, it will be a friendly get together. But if you do not want to be friends with any of the Kankers that is your choice, and I will not hold you against it.” And with that, Edd opened the door to his house. “Now if you can excuse me,” he continued, “I have homework to complete.”
This is my first Ed Edd n Eddy fan fic. I was gonna make on that introduced my character Derek first, but I kinda liked this idea first.
